Happy Monday my Busy Moms! Hope you all had an amazing weekend! Can you believe it?! It’s already AUGUST! We just got back this weekend from our family vacay in Cali, and now here we are welcoming August!
First, I have to shout out my son, Aiden – HAPPY 9TH BIRTHDAY AIDEN! I can not believe he is already nine years old and heading into the fourth grade.
And speaking of school, do you know what time it is?!?!?!
Yep! It’s back to school time! My kids will officially go back next week, and I’m sure everyone else is pretty much in the same vicinity in going back to school as well.
This week on the blog, I wanted to give you all something that should take away the stress of you getting your back to school plans completed for your kids. There’s soooooooooo much a busy mom has to think about with all things back-to-school, so I wanted to make it easier for you. So here are 10 Back To School Hacks For The Busy Mom. Make sure to go through it and get it done! Remember, the mom who plans, is the mom who prospers! In other words, stay ready, so you won’t have to get ready.
So, here’s your 10 Back To School Hacks For The Busy Mom
1 – Get Uniforms/School Clothes:
If you haven’t already, be sure to go get your kid’s school uniforms/school clothes. You should make sure if you have any orders coming in for school clothes, make sure they fit, and if not, make the necessary adjustments to exchange and/or re-order. Shipping can get pretty hectic around this season, due to a lot of parents trying to get their orders in.
2 – Backpacks, Lunchboxes, Water Bottles, and Thermos
Make sure you have their backpacks, lunchboxes, water bottles and thermoses on deck!
3 – School Supplies:
Check with your state to see when they are offering tax free week. Here in Florida, it is currently our tax free weekend from July 25th – August 7th. If you have to purchase the supplies for your kids, be sure to get their supply lists so you can get the appropriate supplies. Side tip: I always get a few extra supplies (ie: lined paper, notebooks, crayons/colored pencils/markers, binders, pencils, etc) to have it home for the kids, so that they will be able to have some for their homework, projects, and free time activities.
4 – Schedule Hair Appointments/Haircuts
If your kids will be needing any hair styling, hair cuts, and new do’s for school, be sure to schedule their appointments. I know hair stylists and barbers usually get super busy around this time as well, due to everyone trying to schedule around the same time.
5 – Schedule Doctors’ Appointments:
Be sure to schedule any and all necessary doctors’ appointments before school starts. This may include their well check ups, physicals due to sports and eye exams.
Tip: If your child wears glasses, make sure to have a spare on standby.
Additional Tip: If your child is on any medications, make sure you have enough in supply to give to the school.
6 – Attend Meet the Teacher/School Orientation:
Before you attend, it would be beneficial for you to have a list of questions you may have for the teacher and staff to ask once you get there. Also, while at the Meet the Teacher/School Orientation, be sure to do the following: get a class schedule, get teacher contact info, get school contacts, make sure your info is updated with the school, get car line tags, have emergency info updated, get school lunch account taken care of, pay any school fees, purchase any school spirit attire, join the PTA, and sign up to volunteer.
7 – Meal Plan:
Poll your kids and ask them what are some of the foods and snacks they like to eat so you’ll know for sure they will eat what you pack (instead of them having to bring their whole lunch back because they didn’t want any of the food).
8 – School Organization Zone:
Prepare a school organization zone in your home so all of the kids’ items for school can be in one centralized location. Organization is Key!
9 – Family Calendar:
If you don’t already have one, get and update your family calendar so everyone can be on one accord about the schedule for everyone in the household.
10 – Label Everything:
I can’t stress this enough……label er’ythang!!! Kids are so quick to misplace items so be sure you have all of their items labeled.
Let me know how it goes!
Love,
Kimberly Gumbs
