OMG ya’ll! Happy 1 year Blogiversary to me!!!!!
It has been ONE WHOLE YEAR that I have consistently blogged every week! Woooo chile! It is the consistency for me and nothing but the good Lord that has brought me this far. In my first year of blogging, my main goal was to get and remain consistent, and boy have I learned a lot. So on this special day, I wanted to share with you 5 lessons I’ve learned in my first year of blogging.
5 LESSONS I’VE LEARNED IN MY FIRST YEAR OF BLOGGING
DON’T COMPARE
This is so crucial. Just starting out on your blogging journey, it’s so easy to see what everyone else’s doing in their journey. Heck, they could be on their chapter 52 while you are just starting your chapter 1. I have learned to focus on what I have to do, and I have learned to enjoy MY JOURNEY. Like Pastor Bridget Hilliard says, “Stay focused, stay in your lane, and to keep driving”!
START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE
In the beginning, it can seem like you need to have every single thing together. Well guess what………that’s a lie! You don’t! Just start with what you have. Apostle I.V. Hilliard always says that “God will give you more on your way than what you had when you started”. You literally have all that you need to get started with what you need to do, and when you need more, it will be there. Whether you think you need all the bells and whistles of needing ads, funnels, lead magnets, brand partnerships, or even money…you don’t sis. Just START!
TAKE YOUR TIME – IT’S NOT A RACE
Listen….Take….your…..time! We now live in a time where everyone wants to do things fast because they don’t want to get left out. There’s no race going on. This is not the Olympics. Slow it down, take your time, focus on what you need to do, and just get it done, so that you are able to produce quality content for your target audience.
GET CONSISTENT AND STAY CONSISTENT
This right here is a MAJOR KEY. You gots to be consistent. It’s not an option. In this first year of blogging, consistency is what kept me at it. No matter how I felt or what I was doing, I kept it consistent all the way through. It’s not easy, but it is doable.
BE AUTHENTIC (BE YOU!)
Last but not least, I’ve learned to be authentically me! Trust me, your audience will love you for you! No need to try to appear to be someone you’re not online. So be you, everyone else is taken.
BONUS: ENGAGE! ENGAGE! ENGAGE!
One thing I learned this past year with blogging is to genuinely engage! One of the things I do very well is engage. You may not have a large following to begin with, but that should not matter. No matter how many followers you have or who has commented, be sure to engage back with your community. And when you engage, be authentic with it.
I hope these lessons have helped you.
Thank you to all who have followed me, engaged with me, celebrated with me, and be apart of my wonderful busy mom community! I love ya’ll and am excited for what’s to come!
Love,
Kimberly Gumbs
